BACKTALK is a Monthly commentary magazine for people 18+ that focuses on thought-provoking articles and imagery inspired by the publication, The Atlantic. It features a broad range of social, cultural, and scientific topics to provide its audience with world news from new and different perspectives. My main focus in these layouts was the type lockup for the opening spread. The imagery is meant to represent the dark thoughts that hide behind the smile of comedians. The black and white, the static, the interlocking text, and the hiding of the eyes all create an ominous feeling that there is something being hidden. The rest of the spread and the cover follow this color scheme and visual language. I also created alternate covers for alternate cover stories for this issue.
